The NHL Winter Classic for 2009 will be at the friendly confines of Wrigley Field. It's safe to assume both teams will be wearing vintage hockey jerseys for the special game. Which classic jerseys will Chicago and Detroit wear? Will the NHL have RBK do a special vintage "new look retro design" jersey for both Chicago and Detroit? The Chicago Blackhawks have a bit more to choose from since coming into the league than Detroit who still wear the basic red / white since the 1930's. The Wings have never had a jersey with a lace neck while Chicago has. One idea would be to have both teams wear the same jerseys from when the Blackhawks last won the cup in 1961 vs Detroit. For the first time since 1950, two American based teams competed for the Stanley Cup and it was the Chicago Black Hawks beating the Detroit Red Wings four games to two. The only problem with this theory is nothing has really changed since 1961 with either teams jerseys. Here is a list of both Chicago and Detroit's vintage jerseys from the past.
